Everything is getting expensive, but some things, specifically frozen pizzas, are just out of control.
I wrote a post back in 2018 about frozen pizzas. I commented in the post about the rising high cost. At the time, I was complaining about how the average price of many grocery store frozen pizzas had jumped to about $5.99 (US) to $9.99 and up. The $9.99 was definitely on the higher end though.
Now, in 2023, a trip to the grocery store had me blown away. While there were still many of the frozen delights priced around $6.00 – $8.00, I found multiple price tags that looked like what is shown in the pictures below. $11.99, $12.99, and even $13.99. It was just an off rarity pie. The vast majority of pizzas were priced at $9.00 and up. This is beyond ridiculous.

These were nothing special. Just regular frozen pizzas.
I have no clue how anyone could justify buying a frozen pizza for $13.99, or any price even within a few dollars of that. It does not make any sense how a store could charge that much when restaurants sell fresh real pizzas for about that price or less, and it’s cooked!
While I don’t advocate eating at the “Big 3” (Dominos, Pizza Hut & Papa Johns), a quick search online or in your mailbox will get you coupons on any given day for a large one topping pizza priced in the range of $8.99 (or less). I’d rather eat one of those than to pay $14.00 for a frozen pizza.
Frozen pizzas used to be a convenient and low cost option for a quick meal, but not anymore. I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if we all got extra money in our bank accounts to compensate the difference in price hikes, but unfortunately, that’s not happening.
While I’m not yet writing off pizza as an expense in life, I have drastically cut back on the frozen stuff.
I’d rather have the real stuff anyway.
