I Saw an Amazon Train…

It may not seem very exciting that I saw a train, but it’s the back story that makes this interesting…

Everyone has a seen a train at one time or another, but the train I saw was an Amazon train.

This train was comprised of however many hundreds of flatbed rail cars stretched over what was at least a mile or two, doubled stacked with 53 foot Amazon container boxes. There were no other branded cars on the train. The entire length of the train was all Amazon containers.

That’s quite a bit of random Amazon stuff…

In all of my random observations in life, I have never seen a train that was all Walmart or Target. I have never seen an all FedEx or UPS train, or any full length train that was all containers for one company for that matter. I’ve seen trains with a few Amazon containers as that is fairly common, but this was an entire Amazon train.

That is a tremendous amount of cargo for one company.

Keep in mind that when Jeff Bezos started Amazon, he was selling used books out of his rented garage. Amazon has since grown into one of the world’s largest e-commerce platform, generating hundreds of billions of dollars (US) per year. They’ve also grown to be one of the largest multi-modal transportation companies. If you don’t know, multi-modal means cargo ships, rail, and trucking. In addition, they have their own airline now too.

Yes, a fleet of cargo aircraft flying all over the world, as well as massive cargo ships, trains, trucks, and the vans we see in our neighborhoods.

Let’s not forget that Jeff Bezos is also one of the top 3 richest people on the planet.

A double stacked Amazon train…

At any given time in my neighborhood there are one or two, sometimes three, Amazon trucks out making deliveries at the same time. Looking at the massive size of the Amazon train made me realize just how immense the company has become.

All this, for what?

Nothing more than the ability to buy anything you want at the click of button, delivered to your doorstep.

So yes, seeing an Amazon train was a pretty big thing for me. Granted, I am generally impressed pretty easily, but this genuinely was impressive.

Choo Choo!

That is pretty intense. Was there any graffiti on any of the cars like you see on a lot of other trains?
