Pizza Travels – Miami, Oklahoma

Driving through Oklahoma is something most people don’t usually look forward to, but in this case, there is a place that makes the drive a little less horrible.

Goodfella’s Pizza in Miami Oklahoma

Located in not so scenic northeast Oklahoma on the old Route 66, you’ll find the city of Miami. If you’re wondering, the city in Oklahoma is not named after the city in Florida. Miami is actually a word from the now-extinct native Mayaimi people which means “big water.” In the case of Oklahoma, the town is located near the Lake of the Cherokees.

While that was a fabulous language and geography lesson, we’re here to talk about pizza.

While northeast Oklahoma may not be the most scenic place in America, there is some history there. Located downtown in an old building on historic Route 66 (34 N. Main Street), there is a little hole in the wall family run establishment named Goodfella’s. The place has only been around since 2005, but if you’re into the nostalgia of old Americana, it has lots of Route 66 references inside. The place has a good modern vibe with a touch of the old.

Having a place with interesting decor is cool and all, but the big question is whether or not the pizza is worthy of consumption. Seeing as how I’m writing an article about, it must’ve been pretty okay…

If you’ve ever been to a Godfather’s Pizza restaurant, the pizza here has a similar taste and consistency. That’s okay, because Godfather’s is a pretty decent pizza chain that I can’t complain about. Although the pizza at Goodfella’s tastes a bit like Godfather’s, Goodfella’s has it’s own uniqueness to it which makes it surprisingly tasty and a step above Godfather’s. If you like thicker pizza, this is a pan style that is not too thick, but not really true deep dish. Regardless of whether you call it thick, or sort of thick, it was pretty yummy.

A delicious Goodfella’s pizza

The prices were fair and the pizza was good. What more do you need?

Any restaurant that has old school video games, specifically Ms. Pac Man or Galaga, will always win big bonus points in my pizza posts. When it’s a pizza restaurant, it’s an even bigger win. Goodfella’s has the classic games. It’s always fun to have games to play while waiting for a pizza. It reminds me of being a kid at the Hut playing the old tabletop games back in the day. Good stuff.

As mentioned, if for some reason you find yourself wandering through northeast Oklahoma and desire some good pizza, stop in to Goodfella’s. It might make you rethink your feelings about Oklahoma (well, maybe not, but at least the pizza is good).

** Besides Miami, they also have other locations in northeast Oklahoma: Vinita, Grove, and Cleora. I went to the one in Miami.

My wife’s cousin is a big Route 66 guy. I’ll have to tell him about it since he’s planning to do the route again.
